Lake “Green Lake” in Austria near the city Tragöß is probably on of the most beautiful nature lakes in Central Europe. Why – because of the stunning green water.
Yeah, the water is indeed green. Crazy, right? As the lake get’s it’s water from the surrounding mountains during spring when the snow is melting the water is crystal clear. The bottom of the lake is covered with grass and foliage beneath. The combination of green grass at the bottom and the crystal clear water is giving that crazy green water colour.
But there’s another crazy thing about the lake. During autumn and winter time the lake looses lot’s of water, the water is only around 1-2 meters deep. But then again, as soon as the snow in the mountains is melting the water can go up to 12 meters. That’s some fancy stuff.
The first time I met this lake was during winter time, so the level of water was pretty low. The day before it started snowing, so perfect conditions for exploring the lake. There is some parking place close to the lake – surprisingly we’ve been the only ones that day exploring the Green Lake.
We hiked around the lake for a couple of hours, took tons of photos and had a great time in this beautiful peace of nature. Check out this place on your next Austria trip, it’s worth it:
As said above, one of the most beautiful lakes in Central Europe. Next time I’m going to visit the Green Lake during summer time to see the water difference 🙂
Let me know your favourite lake in the comments!
Rock on,
